Spirals Early Learning is more than an early learning service. It is the result of a family’s shared belief that the earliest years of a child’s life deserve thoughtful education, genuine relationships and people who are deeply invested in helping children thrive.
At the heart of Spirals is Penelope, our Approved Provider, whose career in education spans more than 20 years across primary education and early childhood. As a registered teacher with the Teachers Registration Board of Western Australia, Penelope has dedicated much of her professional life to supporting children’s learning, development and wellbeing.
Throughout her career, Penelope has seen firsthand just how influential the early years are. Long before children enter a school classroom, they are already developing their confidence, curiosity, communication, resilience, independence and understanding of the world around them.
That experience helped shape the vision for Spirals: to create an early learning service where education and care are never treated as separate things.
A passion passed through the family
Penelope’s passion for education has also influenced her children, who have developed their own interests and careers within education and the early childhood sector.
Together, the family saw an opportunity to create something meaningful — a service where their collective knowledge, experience and passion could be channelled into supporting children, families and educators.
Spirals became a place for the family to build upon what they value about education while creating an environment where educators are also encouraged to develop professionally, contribute their strengths, share their ideas and strive for excellence in their practice.
Because when educators are supported to grow, children benefit too.
Why “Spirals”?
Our philosophy recognises that children's learning isn't a straight line.
Children explore an idea, return to it, practise, experiment, make connections and revisit their learning with increasingly sophisticated understanding.
Our approach is influenced by the concept of a spiral curriculum — recognising that meaningful learning develops over time as children revisit concepts and experiences, building upon what they already know.
That's why you'll see plenty of opportunities at Spirals for children to investigate, wonder, experiment and return to their ideas rather than simply moving from one predetermined activity to the next.
Family operated means something to us
Being family operated isn't simply part of our ownership structure. It influences the kind of service we want Spirals to be.
We want to know the families who walk through our doors.
We want children to be greeted by people who know their names, personalities, interests and individual ways of communicating.
We want educators to feel that their ideas matter and that they have opportunities to grow as professionals.
And we want families to feel comfortable having a conversation, asking a question, sharing an idea or telling us when their child needs a little extra support.
With 59 places, Spirals has been intentionally designed to offer children rich learning opportunities while retaining the sense of connection that comes from belonging to a smaller early learning community.

A place where a baby's first attempts to communicate are noticed.
Where a toddler's endless curiosity is encouraged.
Where a Kindy child's growing independence is celebrated.

And where families can feel confident that the people caring for their child understand just how important these early years really are.
